Learning from Standing Rock

  • Red Square at PLU Parkland Wa (map)

PLU is honored to be hosting an event on February 8th called “Learning from Standing Rock”. In Red Square, PLU will be providing a platform for local indigenous leaders to share their experience and learnings from going to Standing Rock and local environmental actions.

The confirmed speakers include Nancy Shippentower (Puyallup Tribe), Rachel Heaton (Muckelshoot Tribe), Benita Moore (Standing Rock Sioux Tribe) who also runs Native Daily Network, Matt Remle (Lakota leader in the divestment movement) and Robert Satiacum (from the Puyallup Tribe who recently dedicated his presidential electoral vote for Faith Spotted Eagle from South Dakota). Students from Chief Leschi and Orgullo Purepecha will also be sharing words and maybe dance performances too!

This is a peaceful and prayerful outdoor event open to the public. Parking is available in any of the PLU parking lots at that time. No parking pass will be required. Please refer to the campus map and we hope to see you in Red Square!
