JenkStar July 2017 Sustainable Living, Art, & Music Night

Join the JenkStars- a collective of artists, musicians, and up-cycle engineers- for an informative evening learning about Urban Beekeeping and Native Pollinators. Learn about honey bees, the challenges they and their keepers face, and other native Utah pollinators. We'll learn what to do if you see a bee swarm, & how to get started with honey bees in your own back yard.  
Schedule for the evening:

6:30 - 8pm - DIY Reclaimed Bee Box demo
7 - 8:00 - Live music by Coyote and the Moon
8 - 9:30pm - Panel Discussion: Urban Bee Keeping
9:30 - 10pm - Audience Q&A

Starting at 6:30 pm, we begin with a DIY workshop where we will learn how to construct our own Langstroth medium sized beehive.
Limited materials will be provided.  
For the serious DIY diehards~~The measurements of the side bars vary depending on whether the frames are deep, medium, or shallow. Deep frames are 19 inches x 1-1/16 inches x 9-1/8 inches; medium frames are 19 inches x 1-1/16 inches x 6-1/4 inches; and shallow frames are 19 inches x 1-1/16 inches x 5-3/8 inches.


Our panel discussion will be hosted by Alethea Maki. Panelists include:
- Chris Rodesch (Salt Lake County Bee Inspector) 
- Stephen Stanko (University of Utah)
- Owen Parry (President of Wasatch Bee Keepers Association)
- Local Hobbyists and Honey Bee Enthusients (TBD)

Following the panel discussion will be an audience Q&A.  

Our featured artist this month is Dan Muir's Living Art Installation. Dan regards his work as utiliizing a 'blend of natural elements and findings from the world around; using the architectural and structural beauty of living plants, enhancing that essence and creating from inspiration.'

New to the SLAM! The Honey Bee Mocktail Bar!  
Bee sure to BYOG (Bring your own glass) and enjoy fresh mocktails (non-alcoholic cocktails) from 7-11pm.

$10 Suggested Donation (JenkStar Sustaining Members are free!). 
$15 After 11pm

BYO alcohol - We'll be serving our delicious mocktails for personal spiking if desired. Bring some $ for that!

Kids are welcome until around 11pm. Please leave your dogs at home!
