The Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation is home to Dakota and Lakota people of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. Despite strong objections from the tribe and environmental groups, oil companies have been allowed to build the Dakota Access Pipeline, which is going to carry crude oil from Canada to Illinois.

The pipeline passes less than one half mile from the Tribe’s reservation border, and all along the route of the pipeline are sites of religious and cultural significance to the tribe, including burial sites of their ancestors. It also runs beneath Lake Oahe and endangers the water supply to over 20,000 people.

Despite a prolonged protest which numbered over 10,000 people at its height; very few media outlets have covered the story.

Supported by the Trump Administration, this is one of a number of projects that ignore human rights and environmental issues for the skae of massive profits for the oil industry.

We are putting on this concert to show our solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux and other indigenous groups who are peacefully working to protect their culture and environment. All profits from the concert will go to the Indigenous Environmental Network.
