Water Protector Wake Up Tour

  • Cheer Up Charlie's 900 Red River Austin, Texas (map)

I can FINALLY speak on this MAGIC! I wish I could express in human form how DOPE & EXCITING this event is going to be on the weekend of April 7th & 8th!

I am currently working with a group of some of the most brave, talented, passionate, hardworking, sincere humans to make this fundraising/awareness tour happen. This group is comprised of a few of the Oceti Youth runners who started the movement, and a group of artivists (artists who are activists) that joined in support of the youth and Sioux nations to stand for the water. These Water Protectors endured unforgettable encounters at Standing Rock that they want to share/reflect on, and felt deep in their hearts the calling to activate and man this mission. Much respect and gratitude goes out to band members Kelli Love & Donald Strickland for coming up with the idea, being soutionaries and visionaries of purpose, and for all the hands working together to make this successful.

One Tribe (based in Hawai'I) had their hearts touched by the motivation, energy & purpose of the amazing Oceti Sakowin youth runners upon meeting them, so much that they decided to join them on the remainder of their journey, return back to North Dakota with them to protect the water and stand against DAPL, as well as raise funds for their cause along the way. They had done big work & found themselves standing for good causes before their journey to North Dakota, from having actively toured with/performed for Bernie Sanders camp Our Revolution and the UpToUs caravan during election time which is when they met the youth runners, to currently persevering to positively make an impact socially, environmentally, and for various causes and demographics. They have expressed how motivated and humbled they are at the opportunity to have the Native youth join to share testimony of their experiences, talk about critical current events, discuss how to rise up/respond/and act during times of aggressive confrontation & political conflict from their perspective, and perform their music.

These beautiful souls jam heavy too! Their music full of substance, truth, positivity, energy, motivation, strength and love. They are a mixture of various genres: reggae, hip hop, rock, r&b, Afro beat, soul, spoken word poetry & so many beautiful sounds! Considering the undeniable & strong stand/support Austin has consistently had for Water Protectors, I would love to express continued gratitude and solidarity in the battles they are still facing with Morton county, the issues and causes they are resiliently willing to show up and stand for physically, and all their continuing work by showing up BIG for this event. A portion of funds raised will be donated to both the Oceti Sakowin Youth Council, and to assist other protectors in Texas that are standing against the TPPL (Trans Pecos Pipeline) in West Texas along with a supply donation station setup at each segment of the event (forum & concert) for supporters to contribute to.

Each date in each city will be eventful & consist of a combination of reflection, a forum/discussion, storytelling, speaking on current events, live painting, local activist group info, a full concert and more. In addition to Austin, they plan to make their way to the Sabal trail pipeline, and are stopping in several other cities that have shown love & participation in days of action/divesting/contributing, that still stand with the movement of Standing Rock and against detrimental, environmental atrocities & pipeline infiltration. They are joined by 3 separate acts, Some of Austins own environmental activist speakers, and at least 1 or 2 local musicians will join the lineup. All members and aspects of this collective have moved my soul, which is great motivation to make this an insightful, memorable, beautiful experience for everyone!
