Water is Life Nashville

  • Nashville Public Library BELLEVUE BRANCH 720 Baugh Road Nashville, TN, 37221 United States (map)

We will meet on Saturday, July 8th at 3pm. Please note the NEW LOCATION:

Nashville Public Library - BELLEVUE BRANCH (*NOT the main library downtown*)
720 Baugh Road
Nashville, TN 37221

Hope to see you there!

Join us for our 1st meeting to understand what's been happening with the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) and other oil & gas projects -- including here in Nashville -- that violate human rights and endanger our health and well-being.

We'll discuss ways we can fight back, including:

*Supporting grassroots, especially indigenous-led, efforts -- local, regional and national.

*Getting Metro Nashville and other localities to commit to environmentally just policies, including divestment from harmful industries. We will look at examples from Seattle, San Francisco and more.

*Long-term social and economic solutions to what we're seeing.

We will be joined by Albert Bender, attorney of Indian law and Standing Rock activist. He has been part of and reported on the historic struggle against DAPL since the very beginning. He also drafted and presented the Resolution Supporting Native American Opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline, which the Nashville Metro Council adopted in December 2016. You can find some of his writings at:

Hope you can join us, and please spread the word!

Water Is Life Nashville will serve as a local hub for learning and organizing around threats to Mother Earth and to people's well-being, wherever they are. We are inspired by, and stand in solidarity with, indigenous peoples' struggles against environmental injustices such as DAPL.
