Chattanooga Rise With Standing Rock National Day of Action

  • Citico Mound Site (map)

This will be a day of action in 2 parts:

Part (1) will be a lunchtime teach-in to educate people on the connected, current, local issues of tribal sovereignty, the proposed development and desecration of 188+ Sacred, Indigenous burial sites at the Citico Mound site on the Chattanooga riverside, and the gentrification/ removal of the adjacent, historic African-American Lincoln Park neighborhood. Details coming.

Part (2) will be an evening time march/ rally at a prominent, local, fossil fuel industry site to bring attention to the names of the black snakes in our area and how they are poisoning our waters and our future. Details coming.

#NoDAPL isn’t over. Members of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe who have been suffering to protect the Sacred water and their ancestral homelands -- experiencing the most militarized, corporate police oppression of a mass of nonviolent/unarmed citizen activists in US history (700+ arrests under the attack of water cannons in sub-freezing temps, LRADS, brutal dog attacks, tear gas, rubber bullets, etc); they are not giving up. They are asking us to move the movement to all our homes. Here in the US, black snakes are everywhere, colonization still happens everywhere, all our water is under attack, tribal sovereignty is disregarded everywhere. It is for us to #StandWithStandingRock by standing like stones against these oppressions everywhere. Join us in action in Chattanooga, on this day of national solidarity.
