Call of Action in Solidarity with Resist Sunoco PA

  • Rhode Island

This is a three day event from Monday March 20th at 8am to Wednesday March 22 at 5pm, by No DAPL RI, in solidarity with Resist Sunoco PA. We ask in support of the Resist Sunoco PA week of action that Rhode Island residents join the call-in to Attorney General Josh Shapiro to demand that he investigates the DEP for issuing permits without investigating deficiencies. Residents outside of the Rhode Island area are also welcome to join this call to action!

Call 717-787-3391
Fax 717-787-8242
email info@joshshapiro.org

Call his office and demand that he follow through with his campaign promises by investigating the DEP and putting a hold on all new construction permits until the investigation is completed.
The DEP illegally issued permits for the Mariner East 2 pipeline. Mention in your call that the DEP sent out letters to Sunoco detailing HUNDREDS of deficiencies in their permit applications for the project. However, under pressure from Governor Tom Wolf's office, the DEP issued permits without deficiencies having been addressed.

The Mariner East pipelines:
"The Mariner East 2 pipelines would span over 300 miles across 17 counties in Pennsylvania carrying natural gas liquids, including propane, butane, and ethane, which are 150 times more flammable than natural gas. The pipeline will cross many streams, wetlands, and waterways, severely impacting Pennsylvania’s watersheds." (cleanaircouncil.org)

Why the Attorney General and the DEP:
"New information from a team of investigative journalists at Public Herald shows Department of Environmental Protection has systematically handled fracking-related complaints with misconduct.
Investigators fought with DEP for three years to obtain information on fracking-related complaints. What they uncovered is jarring. DEP has received over 9,400 complaints related to gas and oil impact. Within this data, the Public Herald alleges to have identified at least 177 water contamination investigations herein DEP committed one or more of three types of official misconduct: malfeasance, misfeasance, and negligence.
Pursuing this potential criminal activity is the responsibility of the Office of the Attorney General."

How does this relate to No DAPL RI?
From resistsunocopa.com: "Sunoco Logistics, funded by Energy Transfer Equity, is the company responsible for the Dakota Access Pipeline, the Mariner East Pipeline, the Marcus Hook Refinery, and countless other dangerous and polluting structures. Sunoco Pipeline Resistance Pennsylvania carries the No DAPL struggle in our hearts as we work to protect watersheds on land stolen from indigenous people here about 200 years ago. We know that Pennsylvania as a state has done an intentional job of erasing native history. This state has no recognized tribes or treaty lands, yet native communities are alive here today and have a long history that we work to lift up while we resist the pipeline"
