Puget Sound Energy wants to build a 140 foot, 8 million gallon liquid natural gas storage tank with production capability of 500,000 gallons a day. Puget Sound Energy previously leased liquid natural gas storage at Williams Northwest Pipeline’s LNG plant in Plymouth, WA. That facility had an explosion in 2014 that injured 5 workers and forced everyone within a two mile radius to evacuate. The Plymouth LNG plant is still only operating at half capacity. Now Puget Sound Energy wants to build a $310 million liquid natural gas tank in the Port of Tacoma. This facility would be the second only marine bunkering facility in the US, and the largest. From this new tank, four miles of new pipeline will be constructed through the City of Fife to expand the amount of natural gas that can be piped into the port and an additional mile through unincorporated Pierce County to a new gas distribution station. The Puyallup Tribe is strongly opposed to this facility right next to their marina on the Hylebos. 28 Washington tribes voted to opposes PSE LNG.
