Spring Concert: Water is Life

  • Venice Island Performing Arts 7 Lock Street Philadelphia, PA, 19127 United States (map)

The Philadelphia Freedom Band presents our Spring Concert: Water Is Life, with special guests Philadelphia Voices of Pride

Water has been a source of inspiration for composers throughout history, because it is so important on levels practical, aesthetic, and spiritual. Consider the majesty of a flowing river, the serene peace of a lake, the sprouting of crops after a good rain, the abrasive power of waves crashing on a vast shoreline; something about the magnificent power of water hits us at a fundamental level. Our music will strive to represent water in its many forms: from the sound of lazy rivers and devastating typhoons, to jaunty seafaring tunes and mists thick enough to swallow cathedrals.

Admission is always free, but please keep in mind that we operate on donations. Also, there will be some really nice raffle items, so bring some extra dollar bills for a little intermission fun!

Main Street Manayunk is a vibrant and accessible place to hang out before or after the concert-- there are many opportunities to treat your mom to a fun day out on Mother's Day. Whether she's the kind of person who would love to be pampered at a spa, do some boutiquey window shopping, linger at a sidewalk cafe or wine bar, or knock back some local brews and tacos-- Manayunk has all of that and more. You could even do an ecological tour of the lovely Manayunk Towpath, along the canal. Make a day of it!
