Pinelands Commission VOTE - NJNG Pipeline and Wharton Resolution (Sept 14- Trenton NJ)

  • Patriots Theater at the War Memorial 1 Memorial Dr. Trenton, New Jersey 08608 (map)

Pack the house to oppose the pipeline and protect the Pinelands!

The Pinelands Commission intends to vote on whether or not to approve the application by New Jersey Natural Gas to construct a high pressure pipeline through a portion of the Pinelands. The Commissioners need to see a room packed full of Pinelands Supporters. They have to cast their vote in front of you.

The New Jersey Natural Gas Southern Reliability Link pipeline is a 30-mile, 30" diameter, 722 psi gas transmission pipeline slated to be routed from Chesterfield, in Burlington County, through the Pinelands to Manchester, in Ocean County. This pipeline is associated with the Garden StateExpansion, which includes a new compressor station in Chesterfield. These projects put the health and resources of residents, our ecosystem, and our environmental regulations at risk.

The Commission needs eight affirmative votes to move this project forward (there are a total of 15 Commissioners). A recusal or abstention counts as a no vote.

In spite of the turmoil around the NJNG Gas Pipeline, the Pinelands Commission could also take a very positive action on September, 14th. For the first time in its history, the full Commission will be presented with a resolution that would greatly reduce the harm being done by off-road vehicles in the heart of the Pinelands National Reserve - Wharton State Forest. If passed, the Wharton Resolution will have the force of effect to designate only those sand roads marked on the USGS map as being available for use by motorized vehicles. This map of Wharton will be made available to the public and will present a great public access benefit to those who are seeking a reliable and responsible way to explore its 122,800 acres of preserved open space.
