Pack the Room: Don't Skip Enbridge Line 3 Public Meetings

  • State of Minnesota Public Utilities Commission Saint Paul, Minnesota 55101

On Thursday, the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission will consider whether to skip several required public meetings on the Enbridge Line 3 tar sands pipeline project, at the request of the fossil-fuel-industry-supporting Minnesota Department of Commerce. This would shut down citizen input unfairly, particularly in parts of the state that haven't had the chance to weigh in on the pipeline yet.

Come join us to pack the room and show that Minnesotans care about being heard. The PUC will hear discussion on this issue from 11:30am on, and we'll hold a debrief and next steps discussion afterwards at Black Dog Cafe a few blocks away.

The PUC meeting at 11:30am is at 121 7th Pl E, St. Paul -- the building is all blue glass and does NOT say Public Utilities Commission on the outside. You need to go up to the third floor; the hearing is in room 350.

The proposal that the PUC will be considering would eliminate many planned public meetings along "alternate routes" proposed for the pipeline. Current rules require a meeting in every county that the pipeline crosses, but the Department of Commerce would like to skip several counties and concentrate meetings in population centers instead. This makes it more difficult for many people to participate in the public process, especially along proposed routes in southern Minnesota that do not currently have Enbridge pipelines.

We need to stand up and insist that people who live in these areas get to hear the full details about the pipeline that Enbridge might build and have opportunities to speak out.

Join us to fill the room on Thursday!
