Boycott TD Bank for pipeline investments>Burlington mass action!

THE PLAN: Have 1-2 people hold a "Boycott TD Bank" sign in front of Burlington's location for ALL opening hours in a week (8am-6pm), Mon-Saturday. We will be handing out information to TD customers, and collecting signatures. We're working on finding sponsors to give out snacks/hot beverages, to attract a crowd. At the least, we will provide refreshments to volunteers.

WHY: Transferring your bank funds to an environmentally-friendly credit union is one of the highest impact, low-effort actions you can do to have an effect on climate change. Here's info on what TD bank does with your funds: you rather have your bank invest your personal savings into solar, or invested into a pipeline?

SMALL GOAL: We are simply looking for 16-40 volunteers to cover a 1-2 hour shift. If you might be interested in doing a shift, please say you're interested in this event and I will send you time slot options to choose from. Here is the current volunteer calendar:

OUR BIG GOAL: To have as many TD Bank customers sign a petition to TD Bank/State of VT/&UVM, and to have as many customers pledge that they will, or have closed their TD bank accounts. We will contact as many other cities to also boycott their banks using the same tactics, using our templates to make it easy. If you don't live in Burlington and want to organize your own local event, just start your own event, copy this information, and I will send you a copy of our google calendar & addt'l info. This event is primarily targeting TD banks, however there will be other similar events in the future that target other investors of the major oil pipelines (to name a few- Wells Fargo, Bank of America, etc).

HOW IT'S EFFECTIVE: Instead of planning one large march, we believe we can educate a larger audience of bank customers by spreading out the time of our volunteers. If we each do a 1-2 hour shift, we can hand out an enormous amount of informational pamphlets. When we educate & upset TD Bank customers, TD managers will be effected, and it will ring up the corporation ladder. We believe the majority of Vermonters believe and care about climate change, but don't understand how severe of an impact their TD Bank accounts are enabling the fossil fuel industry.
