Living Beyond Hope and Fear: Warrior Principle, Climate Action (Sept 15-17 Boulder CO)

  • Shambala Center 1345 Spruce Street Boulder, CO, 80302 United States (map)

Our times call for bravery.

The second annual climate change symposium, Living Beyond Hope and Fear: Warrior Principle, Climate Action, will support the cultivation of our innate courage as we engage with the ecological and social challenges that arise out of climate change.

This symposium is designed for the greater community of faith practitioners, citizen activists, climate scientists, academics, artists, householders, elders, students and youth. In short, any and all who care about the future of our changing world are welcome to attend.

Found in all wisdom traditions, the practice of warriorship explores how tools of compassion, wisdom, and bravery can help us navigate the world through the ups and downs of hope and fear. Practicing warriorship allows us to open our hearts, allowing for appreciation of the sacredness of life itself. Grounded in a view of appreciation and confidence in our collective humanity, we can move forward into action that heals and enlivens us to reconnect with ourselves, with others, and with the natural world.

With plenary sessions led by Muslim peace activist Sahar Alsahlani and sustainability leader and Buddhist teacher Marty Janowitz, participants will have opportunities for contemplation, conversation, meditation, and community building. During breakout sessions, we will explore topics related to eco-action: household energy usage, municipal climate action plans, national carbon fee and dividend legislation, youth activism, non-violent direct action in the face of fracking, and climate justice, among others.

We will be guided through deep appreciation and healing for our sacred earth with the help of Native American friends, as well as an interfaith panel moderated by GreenFaith Executive Director Rev. Fletcher Harper. And, as a special treat, Master Storyteller Odds Bodkin will share stories of the Fall of the Titans and other tales for our times. Kendra Krueger will serve as our group facilitator.

Building on last year’s symposium, Living Beyond Hope and Fear: Social Confidence and Climate Change, this year’s event will provide participants with opportunities to take warrior action beyond the weekend, through engagement with affinity circles that will emerge from symposium breakout sessions.

Kid's program Saturday from 9am-6pm. Children under 12 attend for free with a registered adult.

Please join us for this weekend of community, conversation, and creativity!
