Rally in front of TD Bank - Vancouver, BC

  • TD Tower 700 W Georgia St Vancouver, BC (map)

Join us from noon-1PM on March 10 at a rally with Indigenous leaders across the street from TD Tower.

Also join us from 4pm - 6pm on March 10 at the same location for: IntersAction - "We Stand with Standing Rock!" Bring your banners, signs and voices for 2 hours of marching, chanting and petitioning in front of TD Bank. TD will still be open, so you can close your own account and we will be asking everyone else to do the same! Led by Climate Convergence Metro Vancouver

These events, along with another Treaty Alliance event in Montreal targeting TD Bank on the same day, mark the start of a larger campaign by the Treaty Alliance targeting TD, which continues to violate Indigenous rights from Standing Rock to the Salish Sea in the following ways:

- TD is one of the main lenders to the Dakota Access pipeline project (and the biggest in Canada), lending $365 million to make the DAPL project possible.
- TD is acting as the principal broker for Kinder Morgan, helping it raise the money it needs to try to ram through the Trans Mountain Expansion tar sands pipeline and tanker project over the very clear objections of First Nations in BC and Tribes in the Pacific Northwest.

The Dakota Access fight is not over and the Kinder Morgan fight is just getting started. TD brands itself as a socially responsible bank, yet it is enabling and profiting off these 2 major crimes against Indigenous Peoples and against Mother Earth.

The Treaty Alliance is calling on Canadians, municipalities and businesses to stop doing business with TD until such time as TD stops violating Indigenous rights and stops threatening all of our children by funding climate change. We are starting with TD but any investor in the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Expansion can expect to have its involvement publicly opposed as well.

This event is being organized in solidarity with the Native Nations March on Washington DC being organized on the same day by our fellow Treaty Alliance signatory and ally the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe along with Indigenous grassroots leaders and organizations. Indigenous Peoples across the world are rising in solidarity and demanding that Indigenous rights be respected and that Mother Earth be protected - for the benefit of all.

122 First Nations and Tribes have now signed the Treaty Alliance Against Tar Sands Expansion stating their official opposition to the expansion of the Alberta tar sands and barring the passage of proposed tar sands pipeline and rail projects, including their associated tanker traffic. The signatories are working collectively to enforce the ban which covers the following pipeline projects, which threaten our water and our coasts and which would fuel catastrophic climate change effects (by making further tar sands expansion possible): Kinder Morgan, Line 3, Keystone XL, Energy East and Northern Gateway, which many of our members stopped long ago.
