Standing Rock Stories + Visuals with Candy Brings Plenty

  • The Laundry 3359 26th Street San Francisco, California 94110 (map)

We are thankful for The Laundry for hosting us for a deep dive into some of the pivotal events of Standing Rock that led to numerous marches and environmental interest nationally and globally. The location based movement didn't end when DAPL closed the main Oceti camp, instead, it took flight and became a true movement that exemplified #StandingRockIsEverywhere

Images: Adam Alexander Johansson's images managed to help influence activism in Scandinavia, and have DNB pull out of divesting from DAPL. Although he will not be attending, we will showcase his images and promote his intensions, of having his visuals be an agent of indigenous voices to get to speak the story of Standing Rock. His footage was used by numerous musicians and TYt Politics.

Candi Brings Plenty was a figure in many of the movement's actions. Her story was told by Adam for Swedish LGBT magazine, Otter. Candi will share with us her experiences, indigenous history, and what is next after Standing Rock. As the spring turns to summer, numerous events are planned, Candi will share her New actions and goals post leaving Oceti camp.

Naureen Nayyar went to Standing Rock to observe what was happening as she was at the time working for a UN partner program. She will share info on being an Allie, and curate the event's stories by Candi and a couple other indigenous speakers. She will share how Standing Rock is inspiring the next wave of entrepreneurship in media and the environmental sector.
