Co-Occupy City Hall & #DivestLA!

  • Los Angeles City Hall 200 N Spring St Ste 101 Los Angeles, California 90012 (map)

On Monday March 20th, we’re turning up the pressure on city council to TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION! Water protectors and supporters we need you at City Hall to pack the Budget and Finance Committee meeting! We are calling on our representatives to divest from Wells Fargo for their unethical banking practices, including financing the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Join us and help make this a powerful show of solidarity!

12PM - PRESS CONFERENCE ON THE WEST STEPS OF LOS ANGELES CITY HALL. Divest LA will formally announce our drafted motion and the ethical banking guidelines we want LA City Council to pass. Bring your signs!

2PM - BUDGET AND FINANCE COMMITTEE PUBLIC MEETING. *LET’S FILL EVERY SINGLE SEAT IN THE ROOM AND PACK IT WITH A FULL HOUSE OF SUPPORTERS.* The divestment proposal must go through this committee before it gets voted on and moved to the full City Council.

We want our councilmembers to clearly commit to immediate legislative steps that would end the city's financial ties with Wells Fargo and amend the existing Responsible Banking Ordinance to protect the interests of the people and our planet.

This co-occupation is a peaceful demonstration. We encourage civic engagement, and open dialogue between elected officials and citizens in a shared public space.

We are fighting for water. We are fighting for indigenous rights. We are fighting for ALL people who have been affected by Wells Fargo’s corrupt and unethical banking practices. We stand united to say NO MORE. We want a future that is fair and just. We demand a financial system that works for the benefit of our communities, our earth, and the common good.

Seattle was the first to divest $3 billion from Wells Fargo. Santa Monica recently divested $1 billion and San Francisco just passed a DAPL bank screener in the quest for divestment. Los Angeles will not only be the next to divest, it will be the BIGGEST city to pull their funds from Wells Fargo.

Come out in full force and show the city what people power looks like! LOS ANGELES, LET'S MOBILIZE TO #DIVESTLA!
