San Pedro and South Bay artists gather to support the Water Protectors at Standing Rock in North Dakota. The situation has changed, but not ended and the effort to protect the water, the land, and the people is ongoing. We have reached another chapter in the continuing saga.

From Saturday, March 11 to Saturday, March 25 Cornelius Projects will host an art exhibition to benefit the Water Protector Legal Collective to cover legal fees for the ceremonial resistance camps at Standing Rock, North Dakota. A silent auction will begin at 6 p.m. during the opening reception on March 11 and will continue to the end of the closing reception on Saturday, March 25 at 9 p.m. Following the opening, bids can be made during open hours Friday to Sunday 12–5 p.m. All bids must be made in person. There will be live music by San Pedro and South Bay groups at both opening and closing receptions. At the opening reception on March 11 Larry Smith, Lubee Nation Co-host/Co-producer of American Indian Airwaves on KPFK FM 90.7 will be speaking about Standing Rock and how the situation is not only in North Dakota, but historically right here on the west coast. At the the closing reception on March 25 George Funmaker, Dakota/Ho-Chunk activist at Red Earth Defense will speak about his experience at Standing Rock and the progression of the movement.

The Water Protector Legal Collective (WPLC) is the on-the-ground legal team for the ceremonial resistance camps at Standing Rock, North Dakota. WPLC maintains a presence on-site and provides legal advocacy, jail and court support, criminal defense, and civil and human rights protection to the Native peoples and their allies gathered there. https://waterprotectorlegal.org/
