Economics of Fracking, Darwin Rural Area

  • Humpty Doo Village Green (map)

What will happen if the Terriitory government puts the economic claims of the unconventional gas industry ahead of its responsibilities to protect land, water and communities?

Join influential economist and Director of Research Rod Campbell from The Australia Institute for an evening of discussion about the financial and social risks and impacts of unconventional gas.

The Australia Institute has been a vocal critic of the gas multinationals’ overblown economic claims and has warned that the financial pitfalls of fracking gasfields will be repeated in the NT. The gas industry employs few people, pays little tax and has itself been responsible for the energy price hikes now plaguing eastern Australia.

Rod believes the gas industry’s promises to Territorians should be treated with suspicion.
